Job Description:

A Head of Project Management is required by our financial/debt management client on a permanent basis. This role is initially remote working with transition to office working anticipated in Jan/Feb 2021.



Helping customers improve their financial situation sits at the core of our client’s entire ethos. Everything they do is focussed on helping people with day-to-day financial management advice, support for existing debt management plans and budgeting/planning for the future.

They require a Head of Project Management to come on board and help drive their service transformation and expansion so that they can improve the quality and services that they provide.

Reporting directly to the COO and working closely with other C-level stakeholders, you will:

  • Support the delivery of the strategic growth agenda including digital transformation and service expansion projects.
  • Build a PMO and enhance the governance and reporting processes and procedures.
  • Lead the bid management activities for major upcoming projects working with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Assess and enhance the current project management delivery function.
  • Work with senior leadership/management to enhance and shape the client’s future services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects, ensuring planning, resource allocation and budgetary constraints are adhered to.
  • To manage external and internal resources and ensure accurate requirement gathering and adhering to the PMO’s project methodology and standards.
  • To lead and chair project meetings with senior management and ensure that all timelines are adhered to and that all issues, risks and slippages are addressed.
  • To support and challenge the delivery workstreams ensuring they are achievable but also providing alternative solutions to successful delivery if circumstances change.
  • To monitor project status and ensure that projects meet the appropriate stage gateways as set by the PMO governance process.
  • To produce and own all project governance documentation, maintaining it throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • To ensure projects run within agreed tolerances and tolerance breaches are reported promptly to the PMO Governance Board.
  • To provide regular project reporting to the Senior Management Team.
  • To present recommendations to build and improve the PMO processes.
  • To give feedback where necessary to the Senior Managers/Directors.
  • To ensure efficient communication channels within the organisation.


Essential experience:

  • Demonstrable project management experience of delivering multiple projects concurrently – a combination of technical and non-technical.
  • Formal PM qualification - Agile, Prince2, Lean or other recognised industry standard qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience building an effective project management/PMO function.
  • Proven experience of third-party management in relation to key suppliers, sub-contractors & stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of project management frameworks and governance approaches
  • Experience of delivering success through effective matrix management of project teams
  • Advanced planning and organisational skills, able to delegate effectively and proactively identify obstacles
  • Strong financial/cost management capability, including managing budgets, challenging costs & interpreting data
  • Able to think strategically and communicate to project teams/sponsors effectively
  • Ability to motivate others to deliver consistently strong results
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; negotiating, influencing, conflict resolution etc.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to promote this same focus and culture across the wider team
  • Proficient in use of project software to plan and organise projects
  • Financial services experience – (not large corporate environments)
