Job Description:

Our Green Tech Engineering client is looking for an experienced Project Controls (PMO) Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is based in London (currently remote) and includes some travel.

 

 

Our client is a Green Technology company that delivers engineering solutions to remove carbon with the goal of achieving net zero. They provide all the services needed to achieve net zero, including technology licence and solvent supply, a full process design package (PDP) and proprietary equipment, and end-to-end systems — including design, build, financing and operation.

Our client works with organisations from predominantly process industries that include: Cement, Refineries, Steel, Energy from Waste and Biogas.

They delivery projects for organisations across Europe, North America and Asia.

 

The role:

Due to rapid growth, they have recently formed a Project Delivery function to lead the coordination and execution of their project activity pipeline. The portfolio spans across three continents and covers study, feasibility and definition stages through to construction and commissioning. The pipeline and size of the projects are growing and will require additional support to:

  • Add additional resources to the project delivery function
  • Apply structure, best practice, continuous improvement and lessons learned to increase efficiency, predictability and resilience.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to assist in the delivery

 

Initially, this role will focus on the creation of a PMO to support the project delivery function which will allow the organisation to control its rapid growth and ensure a consistent approach across the programme/portfolio. You will be a PMO of one supporting a portfolio of approx. 10 projects, with growth in 2021 projected to see that double. The framework will need to continue to allow agility and flexibility, be scalable to accommodate the rapid projected growth, and bring the right level of structure and support.

This role will be responsible for setting/maintaining governance and assurance activities across the project delivery function (programme/portfolio of projects), increasing resilience, and management and ownership of the project controls data and stage gate activities.

 

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Advise project teams to meet their assurance and governance needs.
  • Maintain, and continually improve programme management framework governance.
  • Build and own portfolio level master schedule, integrated with project activity.
  • Manage leading indicators for proactive identification of issues and initiation of corrective action.
  • Status, progress, and performance tracking of projects against schedule, financial, quality, and benefits management.
  • Own company capital investment status reporting supporting company leadership decisions. Requires interface with sales and finance functions.
  • Resource planning to match capacity to resource demand.
  • Maintain an overview of programme level risk
  • Facilitate project assurance activities such as risk and investment readiness reviews, lessons learned, performance reviews.
  • Advise and assist project managers on project control interface with contracted design and equipment partners
  • Lead, source and coordinate cost estimate support.
  • Build supportive working relationships with project teams

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable project controls experience working within an engineering/process industry environment (resource planning, integrated scheduling, risk management, cost analysis, EVM etc).
  • Demonstrable PMO experience working at a programme/portfolio level – including set up and initial framework creation.
  • A strong understanding of engineering projects/environments – degree educated or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Primavera P6 experience.
  • Experience of ERP systems would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management across all levels of an organisation.
  • Ambitious, hardworking, flexible and energetic.
  • An interest in Green Technology would be beneficial.
