Job Description:

A Project Manager is required by our construction/engineering design client for a permanent role based in the North West. This role is a mixture of office, remote and if required, site-based working.

 

**This is not a site/construction manager position**

 

Our family owned and run construction/engineering design client have a requirement for a project manager to run their 'Small Projects' portfolio. This will cover a high volume of construction/engineering projects valued between £15K - £50K. They have recently undertaken a restructuring and identified the need to separate the small and large projects into standalone functions.

 

This is a high energy, fast paced role that requires candidates to have demonstrable project management experience delivering a high-volume of small projects. The average lifecycle for a project is approx. 6-months with up to 50 projects active at any one time. This role will engage with internal detailers, admin, Technical Manager, sales, and external delivery teams. You will also be actively involved in the organisation’s leadership team – responsible for reporting into the MD about the Small Projects portfolio.

 

Contract and commercial management experience (NEC and JCT) are important alongside a moderate understanding of technical detailing/plans (CAD - Solid Edge). Ideally, you will have worked as a sub-contractor to a main building contractor, delivering facades, curtain walls, glass panelling or balustrade type projects.

 

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with sales, technical and site teams to understand the requirement and ensure contract/commercial aspects are completely understood.
  • Attend meetings with new clients when required.
  • Be the primary contact point for all projects within the ‘Small Projects’ portfolio.
  • Undertake project management activities including planning, resource management and scheduling, risk management, budget management, change management, document control and other tasks as required.
  • Project reporting and reviews – you will be the reporting lead for the ‘Small Projects’ portfolio, working as part of the leadership team and reporting into the MD.
  • Compliance – completion and approval of all relevant activities including Design RA’s, RAMS, O&MS, H&S.
  • Team leadership – responsible for leading a combination of direct and matrix employees.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable project management experience within the construction/engineering design environment.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering a high-volume of small projects – budgets up to £50K.
  • Demonstrable experience in working with architectural/fit-out construction products such as facades, balustrades, finishes etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical construction or engineering design drawings/plans/details – ideally, familiar with CAD software, in particular Solid Edge.
  • Contract management including NEC and JCT.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Client facing engagement experience.
  • Experience working as a sub-contractor to a main or tier 1 contractor.
  • Detail oriented but not a designer.
  • Hard working.
  • High energy.
  • Excellent prioritisation and multi-tasking skills and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly collaborative with strong leadership skills.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience of Smartsheet software.
  • Experience of Eque2 software.
  • CSCS card holder.
  • SMSTS.
  • Degree level education or equivalent professional qualification in a related field.

 

This is a recently created role and has scope for the right candidate to stamp their mark on it. This role is a combination of office, remote working and if required, some site travel.
