Job Description:

Our major infrastructure client requires a Programme Management Capability Development Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is based in Birmingham.

 

Our client is looking to build and enhance the capability of their programme and project management profession across their large, complex organisation. In this forward-facing role, you will work to enhance the competence level of the PPM resources by understanding the PPM requirement, developing tools and processes, and championing change and transformation to ensure industry best practice it is embedded across all levels of the PPM community.

 

Reporting to the Head of Programme Management Capability, you will have a broad out facing engagement across the organisation working closely with professional bodies, PPM resources and L+D team.

 

Experience developing and delivering PPM capability enhancement within large, complex organisations (multi department, multi-site, multinational etc) is essential.

 

Essential to this role are strong communication skills, excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, confidence, and gravitas to be able to effectively engage with and influence resources across all levels of the organisation.

 

Key tasks:

  • To be accountable for working closely with the Learning and Development team to define and deploy industry recognised qualifications through the organisation.
  • To be responsible for supporting the Head of Programme Management Capability in developing, maintaining and implementing the ‘Project Management Handbook’ for the organisation, setting out the client Way and defining the Programme/Project Management standards, policies, and processes across the organisation.
  • To be responsible for developing and implementing a Programme/Project Management competency framework across the organisation, supporting individuals to both assess their current competency and build development plans where required.
  • To be responsible for supporting the Head of Programme Management Capability in managing relationships with key stakeholders, including the Department for Transport, wider government stakeholders and industry groups in sharing and developing best practice within the client organisation and the Industry.
  • To be responsible for identifying and implementing industry best practice across the Programme and Project management community, facilitating collaboration and eliciting continuous feedback to promote improvements.
  • To be responsible for setting and maintaining the required capability across all Programme and Project Managers and aligning their development with the client strategy to provide improvement in the way projects are delivered.
  • To be responsible for developing a collaborative platform to support the delivery of Programme/Project Management across the organisation, building relationships with stakeholders across the programme.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of PPM capability development and enhancement within a large, complex organisation/s.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of programme and project management competencies within large organisations.
  • Demonstrable change and transformation experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and experience across all levels of an organisation – it is essential to have gravitas and influencing skills.
  • Experience developing high level PPM tools and processes – some L+D experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • A collaborative approach to working.

 

Please note: this role is not a hands-on technical project management position. This is a high-level change and transformation role focussed specifically on PPM capability development.
