Job Description:

Our client who is a leading provider of academic consultancy services is now seeking a Project Manager on a permanent basis. This role is based in London – office, client site and remote working.

 

Our client connects academic experts with national and international organisations that are seeking to resolve specific, targeted problems or gain critical advantage in their market.  They provide a full range of contractual and financial services to academic staff undertaking consultancy work for external organisations.

Reporting to the Head of Project Management and Programme Manager, this role will have responsibilities managing and supporting a number of projects of varying size from the clients project delivery portfolio, as well as assisting the Project Management Team in project development, planning and delivery.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and liaison skills to maintain a high level of service to all stakeholders. A committed, ‘hands-on’ individual who is able to work quickly and accurately, you will need to be proactive, have excellent time-management, IT and organisational skills, with the ability to manage your workload and work effectively under pressure.

 

This role will involve working closely with the academic community – it is vitally important that you are able to effectively engage with and drive forward projects within this environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management responsibility for the successful development and delivery of a portfolio of projects including responsibility for overseeing the work of the project co-ordinators.
  • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues as well as internal and external stakeholders to deliver corporate goals and projects.
  • Be accountable for the development and maintenance of project documentation including objectives and actions, work-breakdown structures, deliverables lists, operating procedures, project plans and logs, internal and external financial and progress reports, and the creation of other required management methods and templates. 
  • Co-ordination of implementation of individual project tasks including monitoring all project milestones, liaising with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ensure robust contract, performance and financial management across projects, ensuring compliance with all contractual aspects and policy requirements.
  • Ensure all project members are familiar with internal procedures and structures through induction sessions and day-today guidance.
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc information, both written and verbal, to project stakeholders.
  • Support Consultancy Managers in developing proposals and in the design of projects based on existing client and academic institute policies and innovative practices.
  • Support the preparation of tender documentation, costing and pricing and/or contractor selection.
  • Feed into Project Management Resourcing Plans.
  • Support colleagues in facilitating the external communication related to projects.
  • Provide guidance, support and on-the job training for project coordinators.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable full lifecycle project management experience – project initiation through to delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience (UK and international) of project managing multidisciplinary teams and external partners, ideally as consulting projects
  • The ability to manage academic resources and drive forward project delivery to ensure successful project delivery to time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Commercial awareness – ideally some experience within a commercial environment or organisation.
  • External client facing experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder management – managing conflicting academic vs commercial demands.
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Experience delivering multiple concurrent projects.
  • A Self-starter with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Highly organised with strong time management.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Previous experience with public sector bodies or academic institutions would be highly beneficial.
  • Proficient user of MS software suite of products.
  • Academic background – ideally educated to degree level.
  • A formal project management qualification i.e. PRINCE2, APMPMQ, PMI etc.
