Job Description:

Our environmental charity client has an immediate requirement for a land bank/project manager to join them on a Fixed Term Contract until April 2022.

 

 

Client:

Our client works with corporate partners, schools, communities and local authorities to deliver targeted planting projects in urban areas. These promote biodiversity, help to reconnect people with nature and raise awareness of climate change.

 

Role:

Our client is looking for an experienced, driven and well-organised land bank manager with strong project management skills to plan and deliver an exciting and complex urban tree planting and community engagement project.

Working solely with one large corporate client, you will engage across internal teams and external organisations to secure an extensive land bank and drive forward the project to achieve agreed milestones.  Reporting to the Senior Programme Manager, you will work closely with the project team (2x PM, 1x PC), a Land Consultant and the Business Development Team.

 

The right candidate will have experience securing/obtaining an extensive land bank, ideally within urban areas. Experience working with corporate, local authorities, schools and communities is required, alongside delivery of capital works projects. You will need to have experience working collaboratively across different partners and demonstrate strong communication skills.

 

Key tasks:

  • Identify, assess and secure forest hosting contracts for multiple small plots of land with landowners including local authorities and other public and private landowners 
  • Lead project to deliver client and corporate partner ambitions and objectives
  • Oversee site assessments, forest design and planting with landscaper and other supplier teams
  • Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery including the corporate partner, landowners, schools and community groups
  • Create detailed project delivery plans, and associated tools and processes to enable integrated delivery with internal and external project partners
  • Manage the day to day delivery of all project workstreams, working towards agreed project objectives and requirements, timelines and budget, in line with client project management procedures
  • Ongoing quality control, status reporting and tracking of milestones and deliverables
  • Manage the project budget in line with client and funder financial processes
  • Monitor project outcomes and impact, and deliver reports according to agreed monitoring frameworks
  • Ensure good communication and ways of working across the project team and with key partners
  • Oversee project risk management, compiling documentation in line with client and partner processes. Work with internal and external stakeholders to monitor and mitigate risk
  • Manage contracting and payment processes for assigned project

 

Essential experience:

  • Demonstrable experience and a proven track record in identifying and securing contracts with local authorities and other public or private landowners
  • Demonstrable project management experience – including budget management.
  • Excellent communications skills – verbal, written and presentation.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills and experience.
  • Excellent internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Previous experience working in a partnership project environment.
  • IT literate – MS packages and cloud based/remote working.
  • Flexible, self-motivated and goal orientated.
  • Highly organised and comfortable dealing with ambiguity and change.
  • Passionate about the environment/sustainability – desirable.
  • Relevant degree, or equivalent professional experience working in an environmental science, conservation, natural resources or business sustainability context – desirable.
  • Project management qualification – desirable.

There is a requirement for some travel in this role – likely across West Midlands and to the client office in Oxford (expenses will be paid for client site travel only, not general office travel).

 

Remote working and flexible options available – candidates preferred in the West Midlands or commutable.
