Job Description:

Our non-departmental public body client requires a change manager for an 18-month fixed term role. This is a mixture of office (London or Manchester) and remote working.

 

 

Client:

Our client acts as an independent watchdog within the transport environment. They are funded by the Department for Transport and operate across road and rail services.

 

Role:

Due to major changes being implemented by the Department for Transport, our client’s main function is changing. They require an experienced change manager to work closely with the senior leadership team and wider resources to implement major people and culture change across the organisation.

 

This will focus on organisational structures, business processes and job role redefinition activities. It is a small change team and will report directly into the Director of Corporate Services and work closely with the CEO. Exceptional stakeholder management skills are required to be able to effectively navigate the sensitive environment and influence the direction of the change, ensuring all parties involved are engaged and communicated with.

 

There are no direct reports. You will work with managers and senior leadership to ensure all change is communicated to their direct reports and activities are actioned.

 

Key tasks:

  • Facilitate the development of revised organisational structures, including the design and definition of roles.
  • Develop a change management strategy using a structured approach to implement the necessary organisational changes, taking account of the impact of change on staff and managers
  • Identify potential risks and anticipated points of resistance and develop specific plans to mitigate or address the concerns for staff.
  • Develop a set of actionable and targeted plans – including communication plan, coaching plan, training plan and resistance management plan.
  • Support the implementation of the plans by working with managers and staff, and where necessary through being an active and visible coach.
  • Put in place effective monitoring and management processes so that implementation can be tracked, and corrective action can be taken promptly when needed, and enable reinforcement mechanisms and celebrations of success.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable change management experience focused on organisational, people and culture change.
  • A strong understanding of different change management principles, methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills – across all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong communication skills including excellent influencing, coaching, mentoring and negotiation skills.
  • An understanding of change within a public sector environment.
  • A formal change management qualification – highly desirable.
  • An understanding and knowledge of TUPE – desirable.
  • An adaptable and flexible approach.
  • Transparent and open.
  • Comfortable working in a sensitive, people focused environment.
  • Highly organised.

 

This role is remote with frequent travel to either the London or Manchester office.

 

Flexible working available – our client is open to part time working (x0.8 hours) for the right candidate.

 

One stage competency interview including presentation (likely mid-September).
