Job Description:

A Senior Project Manager is required by our Government client to lead the detailed design phase of the new port facility located on the Falkland Islands. This is a 6-12-month fixed term role.

The Falkland Islands Government are currently in the process of delivering a once in a generation project to enhance and improve the main port infrastructure on the island. This will be the largest project undertaken in the history of the Falkland Islands Government and is vital to the continued prosperity of the local economy.

FIG appointed BAM Nuttall on an ECI contract and have been going through initial consultation and stakeholder engagement phases. The concept design stage has been completed to be followed shortly by a detailed design stage (anticipated timeframe of 12-months).

The role:

As Senior Project Manager, you will report into the Director of Development and Commercial Services, working closely to ensure that the detailed design phase is completed, ensuring it is commercially viable and fit for purpose. There is significant stakeholder management required, engaging with the Government, port operator, fishing industry, freight/cargo operators and the local community to ensure that all voices are heard. Credibility is important along with the ability to navigate political environments.

You will have multiple direct reports and work closely with an external organisation providing additional specialist resources (QS, NEC Contract Manager, PM) to assist in the delivery of the detailed design phase.

This is a fast paced, busy role – excellent stakeholder management skills are required, strong budget management and commercial awareness, experience dealing with multidisciplinary teams and implementing structured project governance.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable project management experience delivering large, complex infrastructure projects valued £10m+.
  • Previous experience delivering a detailed design phase on a large construction project.
  • Excellent experience managing complex client/main contractor/supplier relationships including remote teams.
  • A strong understanding and experience of NEC contract management.
  • Commercial acumen – particular emphasis on delivering value for money.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to win confidence and build credibility.
  • Strong communication skills including presenting, reporting and senior level engagement.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills in a political and complex stakeholder environment (across all levels).
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to work in fast paced, challenging environments.
  • A collaborative approach.
  • Flexible.
  •  Previous experience of marine/port infrastructure would be beneficial, but not essential.

One stage interview process plus pre-employment checks (including medical self-declaration, police and referencing) - ASAP start.

This role offers:

  • A competitive salary and a 35% taxable gratuity paid annually (dependent on performance).
  • Favourable income tax scheme.
  • Return flight.
  • Relocation grant (dependent on length of role).

The Falkland Islands offer candidates a unique and beautiful environment. This role would suit candidates who enjoy nature and outdoor activities.
