Job Description:

High profile project manager role leading activities associated with the execution of retrofit initiatives driven by funding from the Community Renewal Fund. This exciting, topical project will support the development of a supply chain equipped to deliver retrofitting within Essex via the three strands of research, business support and training.

The organisation is a not-for-profit company dedicated to improving the UK retrofit sector who work with leading experts to develop and deliver specialist eLearning and tutor-led training that equips people with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver retrofit excellence.

This post is primarily responsible for managing complex change projects throughout the project lifecycle from idea through to delivery. You will be responsible for managing high profile, complex and high-risk projects with minimal supervision. Key accountabilities include:


  • Shaping projects so that there is clear agreement on project objectives, benefits, outcomes, delivery approach, risk trade-offs and sequencing
  • Managing an outcomes-based, benefits-led delivery approach to ensure that the project delivers societal and individual benefits and to ensure that what is being delivered is what is required
  • Working at a senior level with many different organisations to ensure the views of key stakeholders are considered and managed on an on-going basis
  • Designing and implementing effective project governance
  • Planning at the appropriate level for the complexity of the project, ensuring buy-in to the plan, making sure that changes to the plan are controlled and approved and communicating issues in relation to delivery timescales appropriately
  • Horizon scanning to identify other related initiatives and opportunities
  • Ensuring effective management of project risk such that risks are understood by all key stakeholders, that risk trade-off discussion are held where required, that mitigating actions are agreed and residual risk is managed
  • Identifying project issues and taking preventative or mitigating action to maximise project success
  • Coordinating, and where necessary directing, the input from support resources (including internal teams and external suppliers) to achieve project objectives and deliverables
  • Managing people resources so that the right skills are available at the right time
  • Managing suppliers such that delivery of agreed work to the agreed level of quality is achieved in line with the project plan
  • Managing the project budget and raising issues in a timely manner
  • Managing the project and project team on a day-to-day basis
  • Reporting progress, issues, forecasts and risks according to agreed project governance structures and tolerance levels

This is a fixed term role for an initial period through to the end of June 2022 in line with the current funding.

It is anticipated that one day per week will be in the main office based in Staffordshire, the remaining time being split between the field and working from home.
